The Color Blue

All over the news, you hear about the tribulations that our gay society is facing. Hate crimes, violence, discrimination, the list goes on. Well, what if those stories were only a small part of a larger picture? I'm not saying they don't matter, but what about those people who didn't have huge dramatic experiences? It's time for a change. A chance to look at a story about someone who had an OK time when they realized they were gay. A person who went on living life as if it was just another experience. A person, who in his own words describes being gay as "...liking the color red over the color blue." This is his story.

Gays are Fighting

Hello readers.
This is a link to a New York Times article about gay marriage. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/25/us/25marriage.html This article shows how the attorney general of Maryland wants to change the definition of marriage in their state which posits that marriage is between a man and a woman. Although this is not about allowing gays to profess themselves homosexual and still be in the army, it relates to my article in our magazine because it is about gay rights and it proves that they will gain their fundamental rights over time no matter what. It may take some battles but the xenophobic freaks need to stop their oppression. Republicans, right winged Christians, homophobes.... your time is done. Keep in touch for more articles.
Hey guys, I have a link to an article about a new and ridiculous diet craze in Britain. People have seriously been hurt by this diet that relies on shakes and only supplies 500 measly calories a day. Here is the link: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1085217/Dying-The-diet-craze-sweeping-Britain-allows-just-500-calories-day.html

Chinese Miners Trapped....again

Hey all you civil rights mongers, just this morning a post was made on the New York times about 153 Chinese coal miners trapped by a flood. Oh snap! http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/30/world/asia/30china.html?ref=world If the miners don't survive, this will be the deadliest mining accident in China since 2007. I think it's time the UN step in and set down some regulations for the mining industry in China, for thousands of workers die every year in Chinese mining accident involving poor planning and lack of tools. What do you guys think?

Love In Action?

For all those who actually care, here's a story that might interest you. http://www.alternet.org/rights/22280/ Setting Him Straight? is about a teenager, named Zach, who's parents forced him to go to 'summer' camp. Not too bad, right? Well, this was a summer camp designed to 'de-gay' kids. That's right. Take in gay teens and turn them straight. According to the website "Love In Action is a Christian discipleship ministry that exists to restore those trapped in sexual and relational sin through the power of Jesus Christ." In my opinion, this story is heartbreaking. The thought that these parents would do that to their child is terrifying and should be illegal. The things that go on in this 'camp' are abusive and psychologically damaging. But my opinion is just one, so, I'm asking you. What's your opinion on this? By Miranda D.

What About Our Promise?

What would you do if your own home wasn't safe? What would you do if, every night, you feared for your life? Would you run? Would you sleep in the desert? What if you had too? Those are all questions that the children of Uganda whisper to themselves in the dead of night. Will they finally come for me? Will I be forced to fight? Or be a slave? All questions caused by an otherwise unknown genocide. What will I do? Where will I go? Will I survive? By Miranda D.

The Cutting Edge

Social stereotypes have suppressed the ongoing issue of self mutilation for too long. It's time to break the assumptions and find the science behind why some kids resort to the razor blade. - Emma S.
